Nizio Design International (NDI) was established in New York in 1996 by Mirosław Nizio. In 2002, NDI moved its head office to a historic tenement in Warsaw’s Praga district which also gives room to the contemporary art “Nizio Gallery” and The Creators Foundation.
During the sixteen years of its operations on the American and Polish markets, apart from the broad interior architecture including offices, public utility buildings, and recreation facilities (state-of-the-art SPA complex in Janów Lubelski), private residences, industrial facilities (e.g. the Factory Museum at Łódź’s Manufaktura that reconstructs the history of I.K. Poznański’s factory on the site of Europe’s largest brownfield revitalisation project), NDI has primarily specialised in museum designs (Warsaw Uprising Museum). NDI’s unique characteristic is creating monumental architecture intimately referenced to the urban layout, which represents the main focus of our creativity – Contemporary Art Museum in Wroclaw, futuristic-historical project of “The Gate to the 1920 Battle of Warsaw” Museum combined with the urban complex, Polish Villages Pacification Mausoleum of Michniów with the surface of 1,6 ha, or the „Stone Hell” of 11 hectares in area).
Each project is particularly oriented around visitors and their need for knowledge and aesthetics, as well as the opportunity to create and develop the museum’s space through “treasuries of knowledge” (education and museum centre “Świętokrzyski Shtetl”, interactive libraries).
NDI also creates exhibition and museum scenarios, maintaining an appropriate balance between multimedia applications and conventional exhibit displays. Our solutions carefully put together the history of the land, new technologies, ecology, impressions of contemporary art and philosophy. Confrontations with the existing realities, discussions with viewers, outsourced socio-urban surveys, and meetings with scientists and artists are integral elements of the design process. For several years now NDI has also shown much interest in creating temporary thematic exhibitions in public urban spaces (Relay Race to Freedom, 60th Anniversary of the Painting Department, Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts). One characteristic of NDI’s works are historical reconstructions involving the latest technologies, so that they become „live”, personal, and encourage interaction with the museum facility. Each project implementation is supervised by a team of seasoned architects and interior designers who provide comprehensive services: from concept proposal to detailed design through on-site supervision.
